Welcome to Sherman Studios!

Hi,

Updated August, 2022 -

You actually don't need to hear about me. Just scroll down to the posts for Ethan, Caleb and Lizzy since they are the three who are currently teaching.

If you really do want to hear about me. Here it goes:

I am the mom (Jannette) and the one maintaining this blog. My main purpose here is to help my kids get started/ continue as teachers but I am open to taking on a few select students myself.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music from BYU in Voice/ Choral Music Education. I sang with the BYU Singers and also had roles in a few operas. I studied both Classical and Musical Theatre techniques at BYU. I also taught high school choir for a year and did the musical direction on a few musicals. When we lived in Idaho, I had a successful voice studio but I stopped teaching when we moved to Utah about the time that Lizzy was born.

Over the last few years, I have been updating my teaching concepts to include more musical theatre techniqes by observing Korianne Johnson teaching my children and also by taking some lessons myself. I have also had the great benefit of attending Seth's piano lessons with Lori Weiss over the last ten years.

I have a fascination with the techniques of music teaching and have observed thousands of hours of my kids' lessons since they began taking lessons about fifteen years ago. Though I don't consider myself to be a great performer on either voice or piano, I have learned from each of my kids' wonderful teachers and have a strong sense of how to help students progress and improve. I will be helping Lizzy, Caleb and Seth as they begin the process of learning how to share their skills with their students. (Nathan and Ethan are already experienced teachers and don't need any help from me!!)

My lesson/coaching fee is $20 per half hour lesson. I offer a free trial lesson/consultation. Contact me at janshrmn1@gmail.com.

As a mother of musicians and performers, I have a good sense of  what specific students need from their teachers. I will be happy to give you advice on whether I feel that my kids would be effective teachers for your kids! If it isn't a good fit, I am happy to give recommendations and help as you go through the process of finding the best situation for your young musicians. I have included contact information for each of my kids but you are welcome to contact me with any questions that you may want answered before contacting them. Here is a few fun video clip that lets you get to know our family of musicians a bit. The first was made right before Lizzy left on her mission to Albania. The second was made in the months after she got off of her mission.
